Cory Monteith: More Tests On Glee Star's Body Jul 16th 2013, 09:07

Further tests are needed to determine what caused the death of Glee star Cory Monteith, whose family has urged people not to jump to conclusions.

A post-mortem examination was carried out on Monday after the 31-year-old was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room.

Police Sergeant Randy Fincham said there was nothing at this stage to indicate Monteith had died because of illicit drug use.

However, results of toxicology tests are not due for several days.

Officers have ruled out foul play and the star, who was found when he failed to check out, is believed to have been alone when he died.

Monteith had battled substance addiction since his teens and talked openly about it. He told Parade magazine in 2011 he felt "lucky to be alive".

His cousin Richard Monteith has become the first family member to speak out, telling Global BC TV in Canada: "Please don't judge on what is going to be coming out.

"Glass half full. All the good things that he's done. There's more things on that side to focus on."

CCTV footage and records from his hotel key fob indicate he returned to his room by himself in the early hours of Saturday.

The star, who played Finn Hudson in the show and dated his co-star Lea Michele, admitted himself to rehab in April.

Tributes have poured in from other cast members.

Naya Rivera, who plays Santana Lopez on the series, told The Hollywood Reporter that he was "a special part of this world and will forever be missed".

Mike O'Malley, who plays Burt Hummel, the stepfather of Monteith's character, told People he was the "coolest dude".

Monteith and the other Glee actors became high-profile celebrities when the hit musical show made its TV debut in 2009.
