Music group to View: Parquet Courts

Backstory: Austin Brown and also Andrew Savage met at the University of North Texas inside Denton, and met up once again in New York, wherever they formed Parquet Courts along with bassist Sean Yeaton and Savage's brother Max on drums. Within 2012, they launched a cassette-only selection known as American Specialties.

Hometown: Brooklyn

Nerd Alert: Back in Texas, Savage and Brown were in a record-listening club called the Knights of the Round Turntable, and Savage played in a psych-rock band called Fergus and Geronimo.

Nick Kids: On Light Up Gold's album sleeve, Savage describes the band's inspiration thusly: "This record is for the over-socialized victims of the 1990s' 'you can be anything you want' Nickelodeon-induced lethargy that ran away from home not out of any wide-eyed big city daydream, but just out of a subconscious return to America's scandalous origin."

Teen Rock: Savage is additionally a member of the considerably more Texas-y, ultra-Nineties indie-rock band Teenage Cool Kids. Focus track: "Landlocked State."
